TITLE: RECLASSIFICATION OF LIBRARY CLERK I1 IN REFERENCE TO LIBRARY ASSISTANT I AND ClTYA DELETING THE LIBRARY CLERK SERIES FROM THE CLASSIFICATION PLAN
City Council adopt Resolution No. ffeAf’, authorizing the reclassification of the Library Clerk I1 in Reference to Library Assistant I and deleting the classification of Library Clerk I and Library Clerk I1 from the classification plan.
ITEM EXPLANATION
The Library Director requested that Personnel complete a job evaluation for the position of Library Clerk 11. Staff conducted the analysis of the position which included the completion of a position questionnaire by the incumbent, an interview with the incumbent and her supervisor, and a review of the classification of Library Clerk I1 and Library Assistant I.
The Library Clerk I1 was originally assigned duties in Administration. In March of 1987, a Clerk Typist was hired to assume the Library Clerk’s duties in Administration. This allowed the Library Clerk I1 to move into the Reference Division of the Library. In Reference, the Library Clerk I1 took over many of the paraprofessional tasks that were previously hand1 ed by professional Reference Librarians. The incumbent is performing duties listed in the classification of Library Assistant I. For this reason, staff recommends that the position of Library Clerk I1 in Reference be reclassified to a Library Assistant I.
The classification plan calls for the classifications of Library Clerk I and Library Clerk I1 to be deleted when vacated by the incumbent. The last Library Clerk is currently in Reference. The Library Clerk is a general clerk assigned to the Library and this classification has been replaced by the Clerk Typist series. For this reason, there is no longer a need for the classification of Library Clerk I and 11.
FISCAL IMPACT
The additional cost for the remainder of this fiscal year is $1,134. The funds are avai 1 ab1 e in the department budget.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, RECLASSIFYING THE POSITION
OF LIBRARY CLERK I1 IN REFERENCE TO LIBRARY ASSISTANT I AND DELETING LIBRARY CLERK I AND LIBRARY CLERK I1 FROM THE CLASSIFICATION PLAN.
WHEREAS, the City Manager recommends and the City Council concurs, that the
Library Clerk I1 in Reference should be reclassified to Library Assistant I; and
WHEREAS, the City Manager recommends and the City Council concurs that the
classification plan should be amended to delete the classifications of Library
Clerk I and Library Clerk 11.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad,
California, as follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
2. That the City Council authorizes and directs the City Manager to
reclassify the position of Library Clerk I1 in Reference to Library Assistant I.
That the City Council authorizes and directs the City Manager to delete
the classifications of Library Clerk I and Library Clerk I1 from the
classification plan as attached hereto as Exhibit A.
