MTG. 8/23/88
DEPT. PCH
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Transfer of Surplus Furnishings
Staff recommends Council adopt Resolution No.f'f .. .Jo~..--, authorizing
the transfer of surplus furnishings to the Regional Training Center.
ITEM EXPLANA~l:ION:
The Regional Training Center is a joint powers governmental agency
which provides training opportunities for government, community,
business and non-profit organizations. It was created in 1972 and
since that date has coordinated training for over 70,000 employees
from both the private and public sector.
On June 13, 1988, an electrical fire destroyed the Regional Training
Center's office in Sorrento Valley, ruining their furniture and
other furnishings. While the insurance company will pay for a
portion of the loss, the director of the Training Center has indicated
they will use this money to purchase classroom and administrative
computers and software. There is still a need to have desks, chairs,
and other furnishings in their new office in Solana Beach.
The City has a number of items stored in the warehouse that can no
longer be used by any City department. Since the City does not have
a need for these items and the Regional Tr~ining Center can use them
in its programs, the Assistant City Manager and the Purchasing
Officer recommend these items be declared surplus and transferred
to the Regional Training Center. The benefits the City has received
in the past and will continue to receive from the Training Center
offset the loss of revenue from the sale of the furnishings at the
County auction.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Only one of the surplus items is listed on the City's Fixed .Asset
Inventory. The typewriter was purchased in January 1982 at a cost
of $927. The present value is estimated to be $150. The other items,
if sold as surplus, would bring approximately $350 -$400. The
Council's decision to transfer the furnishings to the Regional
Training Center rather than to sell them at the County auction
will not seriously effect the General Fund revenue for 1988-89.
