RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No ff-4143 approving contract documents and specifications and
authorizing the City Clerk to advertise for bids for the replacement of the
Main Library water cooling tower.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The cooling tower for the Library air conditioning system has deteriorated to
the point where operational efficiency and reliability is questionable.
Accordingly, in June, 1988, contingency funds were appropriated to fund the
repair or replacement of the cooling tower. An extensive inspection of the
tower indicates that corrosion damage is so extensive that replacement of the
cooling tower is more cost effective than repair.
The work will consist of removing and discarding the frequently inoperative
water cooling tower and defective line, and installing a new water cooling
tower with new accessories.
Contract documents and specifications have been completed and are on file in
the Purchasing and Utilities and Maintenance Departments. Construction is
anticipated to take place during late December, 1988, or early January, 1989,
and should take about five (5) work days to complete.
FISCAL IMPACT•
Project costs are approximately $8,400 according to the estimate. Funds are
available in Account No. 001-820-4010-2460. Money for the work was designated
by City Council Resolution No. 88-188.

RESOLUTION N0. 88-373
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD,
CALIFORNIA, APPROVING PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS, AND AUTHORIZING
THE CITY CLERK TO ADVERTISE FOR BIDS FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF
THE LIBRARY WATER COOLING TOWER
WHEREAS, the contract documents and specifications for the furnishing
of all labor, material, tools, equipment, transportation and other
expenses necessary and incidental for the replacement of the Main
Library Cooling Tower, Contract No. U/M-19, have been prepared and are on
file in the Purchasing and Utilities & Maintenance Departments of the
City of Carlsbad and are incorporated by reference herein.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Carlsbad as follows:
1. The above recitations are true and correct.
2. The plans and specifications as presented are hereby approved.
3. The City Clerk of the City of Carlsbad is hereby authorized and
directed to proceed to publish, in accordance with law, Notice
Inviting Bids for the work of said contract in accordance with
said contract documents and specifications.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the City Council
held on the 25th day of October , 1988 by the following vote, to wit:
