ITEM EXPLANATION The Wildlife Coastal and Park Land Conservation Act of 1988 provides grants to units of local government for historic resource preservation. Carrillo Ranch meets all of the criteria for the grant program. Staff will be asking for $600,000. On July 1, 1987, the City was awarded a historic preservation qrant of $90,000 from the California Parks and Recreation Facilities Act of 1984 for Carrillo Ranch. The State required that the funds be spent for architectural analysis which included a historic structures report, facilities use analysis, archeological report, historic sites inventory and plans and specifications for stabilization. This will use the majority of funds. The City now has the omortunitv to apply for additional fundinq to do the actual stabilization work. The State Office of Historic Preservation has stated that agencies previously awarded grants who have a project underway will receive priority for the current grant. On October 25, 1988, the City Council authorized hiring a consultant that will begin the work under the grant awarded in 1987, Council is asked to adopt a resolution authorizing application for additional grant funds for Carrillo Ranch stabilization and to appointment the Housing and Redevelopment Director as agent for the City to process the application. Grants will be selected February 1, 1989, with funds to be allocated July 1, 1989. FISCAL IMPACT The City could receive up to $600,000 from the Wildlife Coastal and Park Land Conservation Grant Program if the Grant is approved.
