CITYA CITY MG . RECOMMENDED ACTION: Staff recommends Council adopt Resolution No. ff .. j' f~ , authorizing the sale of surplus police vehicles and equipment to the City of Tijuana, B.c. ITEM EXPLANATION: The City of Carlsbad was recently contacted by the qounty of San Diego, Department of Transborder Affairs, regarding San Diego County's role in assisting the City of Tijuana in obtaining surplus police patrol vehicles and eq~ipment . In an effort to assist the City of Tijuana in obtaining sorely needed patrol vehicles and equipment, County .~taff and representatives from the City of Tijuana met with the Fleet Maintenance Superintendent to inspect the surplus patrol cars. The City has recently received nine 1988 patrol vehicles. As a result, there are five surplus units available. The normal procedure is to sell used vehicles at the City-County auction. However, with the approval of the City Council, surplus items can be disposed of outside the competitive bidding process. Using the average net sales price of patrol vehicles sold at the City/County auction, a fair selling price of $850 each was established. In addition to the surplus patrol vehicles, there are several items of equipment that can no longer be used by the Police Department, and the City of Tijuana is interested in purchasing them for a total $364. An inventory of the surplus items is listed in Exhibit "A". FISCAL IMPACT: The sale of the surplus equipment will generate $4,614 for the general fund. EXHIBITS: 1.
