CITY MGR~&? I RECOMMENDED ACTION:
1) Begin the process of changing the name of Palomar Airport Road to Carlsbad
Airport Road. This would include contacting businesses along Palomar Airport Road to try to discuss the timetable so that stationary and other problems
inherent in this change can be minimized. The matter could also be sent to
the Chamber of Commerce to ascertain their support or opposition on the name
change.
2) Request the San Diego County Board of Supervisors to change the name of McClellan-Palomar Airport to McClellan-Carlsbad Airport. The relationship to Palomar Airport Mountain never has been important enough to Carlsbad. The County has proposed to change the name of the airport on several occasions but
never seems to get this done. It is also recommended that the Palomar Airport Advisory Committee have its name changed to the Carlsbad Airport Advisory Committee and that organization be requested to endorse the proposed change.
CALTRANS could be contacted to determine the length of time it would need to change the freeway signs to accomplish this major street name change.
