LIB CITY AlTYQ 1/10/89 - LIBRARY SYSTEM ADVISORY BOARD RECOMMENDED ACTION: Adopt Resolution No. $9- !SI appointing a member to the Serra Cooperative Library System Advisory Board. \ ITEM EXPLANATION: The California Library Services Act provides for the creation of an advisory board consisting of members from each library in the Cooperative System. Since the City of Carlsbad is a member of the Serra System, the City Council has the right to appoint one member to the Advisory Board. That person must be a resident of Carlsbad. Margaret Brownley has served the maximum allowable two terms as' Carlsbad's member on the Advisory Board. Her term has expired. Tht Library Board recommends a member of the Carlsbad City Library Boart of Trustees be appointed to the Serra Advisory Board. Specifically, the Library Board recommends Milt Cooper be appointed. I Director Lange referred to the report contained in the packet, stating Carlsbad should receive 99,397. I f. Draft of Library Employee Orientation Ma(arma1 for Library Baard Review and CMnent. Director Lange stated thi. *BS a rough draft of the manual and the intent was to have all informtion in one place for new employees. President Cooper suggested the policy on umttended children be placed in the appendix. The consensus of the Board of Trustees was that the rough draft was very well done. I LIBRARY DIRECTOR'S REPORT: Geoff Amur reported on the emergency procedures being formulated for the library. This would be for an -I earthqwke; fire; etc., and a separate plan is being formulated for the library. The cooling tower at the library is being replaced and there are several other snaller projects that were funded in the children's area and replaclng the carpeting there. The defusers are being replaced as it has become almost too dark to read in the mezzanine. All this is being done by Utilitieslltaintemnce Department. Mr. Ararxlr reported on the replacement of the obsolete terox aachines with new photocopiers and the agreement that the company furnishing the mchins will service them within four hours. by City Council last year, such as the repair of the mll Director Lange reported that the Fire Department had i held training sessions for earthquake preparedness for i all City employees. Geoff Amour added that the City's ~ Safety Officer went through the library and the primary concern ms securing the shelves and filing cabinets. T he City also trained employees in telephone techniques. That the above recitations are true and correct. 2. That Milt Cooper is hereby appointed to the Serra Cooperative Library System Advisory Board for a two year term.
