RECOMMENDED ACTION:
APPROPRIATION FROM CIVIC ARTS FUND
FOR DESIGN OF INFORMATION KIOSK
Adopt Resolution No. @-/b<Fidpproving expenditures from the
Civic Arts Fund. .
ITEM EXPLANATION
The Arts Commission recommends that an artist design a
permanent information kiosk to be placed in front of the
Library. The Library Board has also approved this project.
The Arts Associates are interested in a kiosk to promote
cultural events and have raised funds to pay for the
fabrication of the first kiosk. The Arts Commission wil. select an artist to design the kiosk. The design will also be approved by the Arts Associatessnd the Library E
The information kiosk will be used to post information
about cultural events taking place in Carlsbad. It will be weather-proof, covered with glass and locked. The design and building of the first kiosk will be a
prototype. If it functions as anticipated, other
locations will be considered. One possibility is the
Redevelopment area to post cultural information for tourists, another possibility is in the La Costa area, a a third is the central part of Carlsbad. After the firs kiosk is in place, the success of the project will be
reviewed before proceeding with others. Future location
will be determined with input from the Planning
Department.
This request is for design only and the Arts Commission
recommends $2,000 be appropriated for this project.
FISCAL IMPACT
Expenditure from the Civic Arts Fund is not to exceed
$2,000 for the total cost of the project. A remainder c approximately $39,402.08 will be left in the fund.

RESOLUTION NO. 89-108
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CARLSBAD, DESIGN OF INFORMATION KIOSK
WHEREAS, Chapter 2.18 of the Carlsbad Municipal
CALIFORNIA APPROPRIATING FUNDS FOR
governs the Carlsbad Arts Commission and establishes the C
Arts Fund for public art; and
WHEREAS, expenditures from the Civic Arts Fund I
City Council approval; and
WHEREAS, the Arts Commission recommends that ar
designed kiosks be used to promote cultural events, and
WHEREAS, the Art6 Commission advises a maximum
$2,000 should be appropriated to fund the design of this
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Co
