TITLE: RECLASSIFICATION FROM LIBRARIAN I TO
LIBRARIAN I1
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. f$Jd/ authorizing the reclassifications of the two Librarian I positions in Technical Services and Reference to Librarian 11.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The Library Director requested that Personnel complete a job evaluation on two Librarian I positions. One position is in
Technical Services and the other in Reference. Staff conducted the analysis of the positions which included the
completion of a position questionnaire by each incumbent, an interview with the incumbents and with the Assistant Library Director, and a review of the series specifications.
The incumbents are each responsible for managing a major program in the Library, the coordination of the automated circulation system (Technical Services) and management of the periodicals operation (Reference). The duties and responsibilities of both of these assignments are significantly higher than expected of the entry level Librarian I. Each of the incumbents have supervisorial responsibility; interact closely with division heads; and
exercise control of a complex, specialized operation. For
these reasons, staff recommends that the positions of Librarian I in Technical Services and in Reference be reclassified to Librarian 11.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The additional cost of salary and benefits for Fiscal Year 1989/90 is $5,343.33. department budget. The funds are available in the

RESOLUTION NO. 89-261
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, RECLASSIFYING THE POSITIONS OF LIBRARIAN I IN TECHNICAL SERVICES
AND REFERENCE TO LIBRARIAN 11.
WHEREAS, the City Manager recommends and the City
Council concurs, that the positions of Librarian I in
Technical Services and Reference should be reclassified to
Librarian 11.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council Of
the City of Carlsbad, California, as follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
2. That the City Council authorizes and directs the
City Manager to reclassify the positions of Librarian I in
Technical Services and Reference to Librarian 11.
PASSED, APPROVED, AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of
the City Council of the City of Carlsbad on the 1st day
of August , 1989, by the following vote, to wit:
