Staff recommends the Council adopt Resolution No. yt.-J;'/,,
awarding the annual contract for janitorial supplies.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The City of Carlsbad purchases janitorial supplies for use in
various city facilities. In order to take advantage of
purchasing in volume, a bid proposal for annual usage of
janitorial supplies was developed.
In accordance with Section 3.28.120 of the Municipal Code,
Notice to Bidders was published and Request to Bid was made
to eleven vendors. Four responses were received, opened,
witnessed and recorded on August 4, 1989. Following the
evaluation of the bids by the staff of the Purchasing and
Facili'cies Maintenance Departments, it is recommended the City
enter into an annual contract for janitorial supplies with
two vendors.
The lowest responsive bid for Items l-32 (Chemicals) and Items
43-94 (miscellaneous) was submitted by Waxie Enterprises,
Inc., 5775 Ruffin Road, San Diego, CA 92123, in the amount
of $20,368.
The lowest responsive bid for Items 33-42 (paper products) was
submitted by Mission Chemical, 9292 Activity Road, San Diego,
CA 92126 in the amount of $12,722.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The annual contract for various janitorial supplies is
estimated to be $33,090. There is a total of $60,164
available in unencumbered funds for the purchase of janitorial
supplies in the following accounts:

RESOLUTION NO. 89-314
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, ACCEPTING BIDS AND
AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTION OF PURCHASE ORDERS FOR THE PURCHASE OF JANITORIAL SUPPLIES.
BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Carlsbad, California as follows:
l. That the bid of Waxie Enterprises, Inc., 5775 Ruffin
Road, San Diego, CA 92123 for eighty-four items as shown on
Exhibit "A", is hereby accepted and the Purchasing Officer is
hereby authorized to execute a Purchase Order for the purchase
of janitorial supplies as may be required for a period of one
year beginning September 1, 1989, per prices on file in the
Purchasing Department, with the option to renew for an
additional one year period at an increase not to exceed 7% of
the prices in effect at the end of the initial contract
period.
2. That the bid of Mission Chemical, 9292 Activity Road,
San Diego, ca 92126 for ten items as shown on Exhibit "A",
is hereby accepted and the Purchasing Officer io hereby
authorized to execute a Purchase order for the purchase of
janitorial supplies as may be reqv,ired for a period of one
year beginning September 1, 1989, pEir prices on file in the
Purchasing Department, with an option to renew for an
additional one year period at an increase not to exceed 5% of
the prices in effect at the end of the initial contract
period.
