HomeMy WebLinkAbout1989-09-26; City Council; 10271; EXTENDING THE ANNUAL CARLSBAD SAND SURVEY AND BEACH PROFILE PROGRAM FOR FISCAL 1980-90i EXTENDING THE ANNUAL CARLSBAD SAND SURVEY AND BEACH PROFILE RECOMMENDED ACTION: Adopt Resolution No. fF&%'approving an extension of the agreeme between the City of Carlsbad and Tekmarine, Incorporated for t annual Carlsbad Sand Survey and Beach Profile Program for fisc ITEM EXPLANATION: On August 18, 1987, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 92 approving an agreement with Tekmarine, Incorporated to resume t Carlsbad Sand Survey and Beach Profile Program. During fiscal YE 1987-88, Tekmarine, acting as coastal engineering consultants the City and the City's Beach Erosion Committee, performed detail beach surveys and profiles as well as related studies concern' the condition of Carlsbad's beaches. Tekmarine has proven to an invaluable resource to the City acting in an independr consultant capacity focusing on Carlsbad's coastal resources. r City Council approved an extension of the Consultant Agreemc continuing the Beach Profile Program for fiscal year 1988-89. The existing agreement between the City and Tekmarine enables . City to extend the beach survey program from year to year. The C Council subsequently awarded the existing consultant agreeme Because of the nature of the coastal engineering work, the le of experience and expertise involved, and the value and economy maintaining continuity over an extended period of time with one consulting firm, staff recommends continuing the professio relationship with this firm. FISCAL IMPACT: Continuing the Carlsbad Sand Survey and Beach Profile Pro< through fiscal 1989-90 will total $21,256 representing only e increase over the prior fiscal year's contract. Our proposal is based on the assumption that the program will continued using the current range lines and survey/reporting fr quencies as presently contracted. All other elements of c existing contract in regards to Dr. Sonu's bi-monthly visit number of copies of reports, Dr. Sonu's attendance at Cornmitt meetings following the submission of the April and October surv results, etc., shall remain the same with the following exce tion. We propose to continue bi-monthly reconnaissance trips t- would like to alternate this task among various Tekmarine persc nel, including Dr. Sonu, in order to intimately acquaint othe mutually benefical to Tekmarine and the City of Carlsbad in t long run. We propose to accomplish the FY 1989-90 survey program for a f of $21,256. This amount represents a slight increase over the 1988-89 program due to a cost of living increase in emplo] salaries. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AS FOLLOWS: 1. That the above recitations are true and COI 2.
