RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. BC1-l(0'2... , approving the purchase of a
replacement Fire Department pumper truck.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The 1989-90 Fire Department's budget contains fu11ds for a
replacement fire pumper truck. This scheduled purchase replaces
an 18 year old front line American LaFrance pumper, which is no
longer suitable for front line service. Due to the age of this
truck, it is not included in the two year old capital fire truck
replacement program administered by Fleet Maintenance.
In Sept~mber, request for proposals (RFP's) were sent to five
fire apparatus vendors in the western United States. The RFP
outlined the City's technical requirements for this procurem~nt
as compiied by a joint Fire Department and Fleet operations
committee.
Three-responses were received by the city. The proposals were
evaluated by the committee for technical qualifications, price,
warranty, and vendor qualifications.
The proposal from Beck Fire Apparatus, of Cloverdale,
California, meets the City's operational requirements and budget
for this procurement. Additionally, the Beck proposal was• the
lowest cost of the three proposals that were received.
F:tSCAL IMPACT:
Unencumbered fuhds in the amount of $181,140 are available in
the Fire Department suppression division, capital equipment
account (001-820-2220-3900). The cost of the Fire Department
pumper is $156,537, plus tax, for a total of $167,494.59.

RESOLUTION NO. 89-402
A RESOLUTION OF THE ~ITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING THE PURCHASE
OF A REPLACEMENT FIRE DEPARTMENT PUMPER
WHEREAS, the City of Carlsbad desires to purchase a
replacement Fire Department pumper truck; and
WHEREAS, the City received three responses to its request
for -proposal : and
WHEREAS, the purchase of the replacement pumper truck from
Beck Fire Apparatus best meets the City's technical and cost
requirements.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Carlsbad, California, as follows:
l. That the above recitations are true and correct.
2. That the Purchasing Officer b"l directed to execute a
purchase order :to Beck Fire Apparatus for a replacement fire
pumper tr~ck in the amount of $167,494.59 from Account No. 001-
820-2220-3900.
3. That the truck specifications and pricing are as stated
in the Beck response to proposal, dated October 11, 1989, on file
with the Purchasing Officer.
