Adoption of Re~olution Nu.f',f.-j{,(ozone Depleting Compounds.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
On November 7, 1989, Council directed staff to prepare an Ozone Depleting
Compounds Resolution. This Resolution encourages voluntary participation by
local businesses to use products that do not deplete the ozone and it
supports action in the State legislature and in Congrass.

RESOLUTION NO. 89 -431
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA -OZONE DEPLETING COMPOUNDS
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Carlsbad is concerned
about the discharge of ozone depleting compounds into the atmosphere; and
WHEREAS, at the City Council meeting of Tuesday, November 14, 1989,
the Council took action to solicit cooperation from the Carlsbad Chamber
of Conmerce to join the City and encourage voluntary compliance by local
businesses to use products that are not ozone depleting in nature; and
WHEREAS, a list of products made with, containing, or using
ch 1 orofl uorocarbons is now avail ab 1 e at the Chamber of Commerce and City
Hall; and
WHEREAS, the City Council acknowledges the complexity and global
nature of the ozone depleting compound issue; and
WHEREAS, the City Council supports speedy action on legi slat ion
currently under consideration in the State Legislature and in Congress,
which addresses the issue of ozone depleting compounds; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Carlsbad, as follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
2. That the City Council of the City of Carlsbad is aware and.is
concerned about ozone depleting compounds and protection of
the environment.
