This program started after several California fire chiefs attended a Mexici Fire Chiefs' Association convention in 1965 at Mexicali, Baja California, Mexicc
While in Mexicali, the chiefs witnessed fire department personn extinguishing a structure fire with limited resources. The chiefs recognized : obvious need the Mexican fire service had for assistance in upgrading thc operation, training, and equi ment. Together with the State Director of Fi

In February of 1966, ap roximately 65 "bomberos" attended an oil fire conk school in Turlock, Cali F ornia. This program was so successful that tl
program the California Fire Chiefs' have sponsored this program. The trainii program has been held in the northern and southern sections of the state wi local county associations hosting the students.
The main interest of the program is to share with our Southern neighbors tJ techniques of fire fighting and life saving through intensive training session also, to assist in equipment acquisition, and to promote fellowship within tl international fire service family.
The Carlsbad Fire Department has participated in five previous trainii sessions; the last being in 1978 when we s onsored five bomberos from varioi sections of Mexico. participate and would be providing for meals. The bomberos would be housr at Fire Station Five and would eat most of their meals there. The departme would provide transportation to and from training sites around the county.
