PER /n PURCHASE OF A MINI BUS CITY RECOMMENDED ACTION: City Council adopt Resolution No. 90-77 accepting $lO,OO( in donations to be utilized towards the purchase of a min bus for the Carlsbaid Senior Program. ITEM EXPLANATION On August 15, 1989, the City Council authorized staff tc accept the "Community Challengeg1 from The Fieldstone Compan. to raise funds to purchase a mini bus for the Senior Program The Fieldstone Company challenged the Senior Program to raist $20,000 by December 31, 1989. Upon completion of thc tlChallenge,lt The Fieldstone Company would match every dolla raised up to $20,000. On December 31, 1989, the Senior Program had met the llCommunity Challenge" by raising $20,343, through donation: of many individuals, groups, and businesses. Since the December 31, 1989, deadline for the completion o the llCommunity Challenge" an additional $114 has been donatec towards the mini bus, bringing total donations received tc $20,457. City Policy requires that all donations over $500 be acceptec by City Council. Council previously accepted $1,000 donatec by Mr. William Martin (Resolution No. 10,166). The additiona donations totaling $10,000 (Exhibit 1) require City Counci acceptance. The City Manager previously accepted all donations with ( value of $500 or less, totalling $9,457 (Exhibit 2) All contributors have received a thank you letter for thei donations. It I anticipate that the Carlsbac City Council will be discussing the acceptance of these donations at one of their regularly scheduled meetings in February. I will let you know the exact date as soon as this item is placed on th~ agenda. It is my understanding that John Barone wishes to present the City Council with the matching check, since he initially posec the challenge to them. We are anxiously awaiting the purchase of the mini bus and hop6 that you will be available upon its arrival to witness the joy ii will bring to the many Seniors who will benefit from the expandec service.
