CCIRLSBCID PRODUCES STREET MAINTENANCE VIDEO
"The Truck Stops Here" Key Element of Public Awareness Campaign
Carlsbad, CA ... The City of Carlsbad Utilities an
Maintenance Department has created a 15-minute informational vide
entitled "The Truck Stops Here." Department Director Ralph FIndersc
describes the film as a "humorous yet information-packed look E
street maintenance in the City of Carlsbad." The video, produce
through a Carlsbad Community Cable Foundation Grant of 81625, wi!
be shown on Daniels Cablevision channel 30 beginning on FIpril X i
X PM.
The video is a uniquely Carlsbad production. Filmed ,
locations throughout the City and starring residents and employe
of Carlsbad, the video looks at three major street maintenan
techniques -- asphalt overlay, chip seal and slurry seal -- throu
the eyes of Susie, a somewhat skeptical but always delightf
Carlsbad resident.
According to Anderson, "In the past, residents would obser
only one portion of the street maintenance process, not realizi

the entire procedure often is spread out over time, from initial
preparation to the final stages of repair. This new video is
intended to ease the confusion and frustration sometimes resulting
from only a partial view of the complete process. We also hope, by
injecting humor and incorporating a down-to-earth dialogue, to show
that our workers out there trying to improve the streets take pride
in what they do and where they work. We try very hard to be
accessible and responsive to the public," emphasizes Anderson.
The message is spelled out quite clearly in the video: "As
part of our commitment to excellence, we always bear in mind that
our ultimate employer is you, the residents of Carlsbad."
In addition to being shown on Daniel's Cablevision throughout
the street maintenance program (see enclosed list of dates and
times), which typically runs from April through September, "The
Truck Stops Here" will be used at schools and organizations
throughout the city to increase public awareness. In addition tc
the video, a display ad, three public service announcements anc
three individualized "doorknocker" flyers detailing for resident5
the maintenance work to be performed, the reasons for doing it anc
the timeframe for accomplishing the task, round out th6
department's informational street maintenance campaign.
