CITY M RECOMMENDED ACTION: MTG. 53-90 ACCEPTANCE OF $500 DONATION FROM CITY A' Accept $500 donation from Waste Management of California, Inc. to purchase trees for planting in honor of Earth Day 1990. ITEM EXPLANATION: In honor of the 20th anniversary of Earth Day 1990 Waste Management o California, Inc. has presented the City of Carlsbad with a check for $501 for the purpose of purchasing trees. This donation from Waste Management o California, Inc. is part of the nationwide effort to encourage recyclinl programs and respect of the environment. The City of Carlsbad Parks & Recreation Department will be working i coordination with David L. Dillon of Waste Management of California, Inc. t plant the trees made possible from this donation for the people of Carlsbad The trees will be planted by city crews at sites in Carlsbad that have ye to be determined by the Parks & Recreation Department. As coordinated with Fred Burnell, Tree Supervisor, Park Recreation Department, three of the trees will be planted by local Boy Scouts on Friday, April 20. The remainder will be planted by city crews at sites determined by Mr. Burnell. T trees were chosen for their drought tolerance and suitabilit the climate and soil. Waste Management of California makes this contribution mark the 20th anniversary of Earth Day, April 22, 1990, and part of our nationwide efforts to encourage recycling progra and respect for the environment. Similar tree-planting prog are being conducted around San Diego County this month.
