MTG.a CHILD CARE COMMISSION CITY 1 DEPTu- APPOINTMENTS CITY I RECOMMENDED ACTION: Adopt Resolution Nos. qG -63 3 Care Commission. and 40-33'( , appointing two members to th ITEM EXPLANATION The terms of Commissioners Julie Baker and Merry L'Esperance expire in July Both Ms. Baker and Ms. L'Esperance were appointed to the Commission in July and have expressed a desire to be reappointed as indicated by their a 1 etters. Section 2.30.030 of the Carlsbad Municipal Code provides that sub appointments to the Commission shall be for terms of four years. Since the has a Sunset Clause and expires in July, 1993 (unless extended), the new tern expire with the termination of the Commission, or in July, 1994 if the term Commission is extended. During the last year 1 have served as Chairman of the Commission and am ver involved with the work we are doing. As I’m sure you’re aware, the City Manager’s Office hc recently hired Ken Jaffe of International Childcare Resource Institute as a consultant to us. Th Childcare Commission is working diligently on a need’s assessment by quadrant in Carlsbad as th Council directed us to do. The Childcare Commission is also working to put together a Resource Library for both potentii providers and parents. We have directed the consultant to search through existing material as wc as develop new sources for the library. We hope that by putting all necessary information togethc for providers they will be enoucraged to located childcare facilities in Carlsbad. The City of Carlsbad is to be commended for their interest in childcare. PJ1 citizens living ii Carlsbad, whether parents or not, have an interest in seeing that healthy, well adjusted children ar given the best environment to development and mature. I look forward to another term on the Childcare Commission in order to continue the projects I hav started as Chariman. I look forward to hearing from you about my reappointment.
