Mr. Patchett,
We are writing in regard to future city projects, specifically
the golf course and city hall renovation. Parkway Nursery was begun in
Carlsbad six years ago and now that we feel relatively established, we
would like to thank Carlsbad for the cooperation extended over the
years, do something positive for our environment, and improve our tax
situation. We feel that all of these goals would be accomplished by a
donation of palm trees to the city.
What we had in mind was a donation of 200 Arecastrum
romanzoffianum (queen palms). The palm material is presently here in
the nursery and would be ready for you to receive in 18 to 24 months.
At that time the palms will be six to ten feet tall overall, in 15
gallon or 24 inch containers.
We have discussed this proposal with representatives of the Parks
and Recreation Department, and they seem to feel the donation would be
beneficial to all concerned. While we are primarily interested in the
golf course and city hall renovation, we are certainly open to discuss
any other project you may have in mind.
In addition, we would like to make an immediate donation of 6
Howea forsterana (kentia palms).
Thanks very much for your consideration, we hope that you are as
excited about this as we are. Please feel free to contact us with any
comments or questions you may have regarding this matter.
Respectfull

DONATION OF PALN TREES
The Palm Tree donation to the City will be used to enhance existing and future
City facilities. The (6) Kenita Palms are planned to be used at the main entry
to City Hall. Three palms would be planted around each flag pole.
The other (200) palms would be used at the following locations:
1. Civic Center/library - plant palms and eliminate Eucalyptus on a gradual
basis.
2. Golf Course Complex - plant palm trees around clubhouse and entry areas.
The trees could also be used throughout course at the discretion of the
landscape architect.
3. Future park sites - Larwin and Southwest quadrant parks could incorporate
palms into the park design.
I recommend the City accept the donation of the (6) Kenita Palms and notify
Michael Jensen of Parkway Nursery that the City would look very favorably toward
the donation of (200) Queen Palms at a later date.
