RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Accept donation of nine hundred dollars ($900) from the Southern California Tennis
Association's Junior Development Program.
ITEM EXPLANATION;
The Southern California Tennis Association and UNOCAL have offered a grant of
$900 to conduct our annual Youth Tennis Daycamp from August 6th through 10th,
1990. The camp is free to area children ages 9 to 13 years old. The camp is for
beginning level and introduces children to tennis as a lifetime sport. The camp is held
at Carlsbad High School tennis courts. Local tennis teaching professionals and
volunteers provide instruction for the youngsters. The funds will be used to purchase
tennis balls, t-shirts, and refreshments.
The Department recommends acceptance of the grant monies.
A letter of appreciation will be sent on behalf of the Parks and Recreation
Commission.

The daycamp is the combined effort of the Carlsbad Parks and Recreation
Department and many sponsors and volunteers. It will consist of drills,
skill development and actual game play. The last day of camp will
include contests, and special lunch. Tennis balls will be provided,
and recquets for participants who do not have one. Registration is
limited to 60 daycampers.

I agree to waive and release the Parks and Recreation Department and the
City of Carlsbad and its officers, agents and employees, from and judge-
ments, including attorney's fees and court costs arising out of my or
my child's participation in the City's Recreation Program or any illness
or injury resulting therefrom, and hereby agree to indemnify and hold
harmless the City of Carlsbad and all daycamp sponsors from and against
any illness injury resulting directly from gross negligence or willful
misconduct on the part of the City or its employees. I UNDERSTAND AND
AGREE THAT BY SIGNING THIS WAIVER I AM FREEING THE CITY OF CARLSBAD AND
ITS EMPLOYEES, OFFICERS OR AGENTS FROM ANY LIABILITY RESULTING FROM MY
(OR MY CHILD'S) PARTICIPATION IN THIS SPONSORED EVENT OR ACTIVITY. I
RECOGNIZE THAT THE EVENT CAN BE DANGEROUS TO ME (OR MY CHILD) AND ACCEPT
THOSE DANGERS. I UNDERSTAND THAT IF I AM (OR My CHILD IS) INJURED THIS
WAIVER WILL BE USED AGAINST ME AND ANYONE ELSE CLAIMING DAMAGE BECAUSE
