Director Report U< 10 August 14, 1990 TO: PARKS AND RECREATION DIRECTOR ' VIA: Keith Beverly, Senior Management Analyst FROM: Stacy Weaver, Recreation Leader II MONTHLY REPORT FOR AUGUST 1990 The Senior Center successfully raised forty thousand ($40,000) dollars through the Fieldstone Community Challenge. With monies raised the Center will soon be going out to bid on a mini-bus. Special Events is putting on a Body Board Contest for all ages. The contest will be held at Carlsbad State Beach at Pine Street on September 8, 1990. The first heat is at 7:00 a.m. The Kids Club Program at Calavera Community Center has started again. After school activities are held from 3:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. every Thursday. Monthly calendars will be distributed at Hope Elementary School. The Youth Tennis Daycamp Program enrolled fifty five students. The free daycamp was held at Carlsbad High School, August 6 - 10th. The new Fall 1990 Brochure is complete and will be mailed to Carlsbad residents by August 21, 1990. The Holiday Park Improvement Project is underway. Contract work will include installation of security lighting, tiny tot play equipment, trash enclosures, and a picnic shelter. Final completion of the project is scheduled for October. The Parks Division completed seeding the grass for the upcoming "Concert on the Green." The grass has started to grow and the area will be ready for the September 2, 1990 concert at the Faraday location. In the Sports division, Youth Sports is currently running a Wed./Sat. drop-in Basketball Camp through the end of August. Adult Sports has begun volleyball registration, twenty four teams have signed up so far. The Daytripper Program, run by Carmen Lopez, was written up in the Blade Citizen. The article included an interview with Carmen and her photo. Recently her most popular trip has been to the Ahmansen Theatre in Los Angeles to see "Phantom of the Opera". The Swim Complex has had a grand total of 1,027 students enrolled in summer swim classes. The last summer session starts August 20, 1990.
