RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. ffl.339 accepting easements for dedication
rights-of-way for the widening of Carlsbad Village Drive as a pi of the Phase V, Streetscape Improvements, Project No. 3347.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
On February 2, 1988, the Carlsbad City Council acting as .
Carlsbad Housing and Redevelopment Commission approvedthe Negat Environmental Declaration for the Streetscape program. At t:
time, the Commission directed staff to investigate the feasibil
of widening Carlsbad Village Drive (Elm Avenue) at Harding Strl
in order to allow U-turns. If Carlsbad Village Drive is wide:
six (6) feet at the northeast corner of Harding Street, the lI turn pockets could be moved far enough away from the opposite cu to allow cars to make U-turns. This work requires a correspond widening at the northwest corner of Carlsbad Village Drive Harding to facilitate a smooth transition across Harding Street
A total of five (5) different right-of-way dedications from f'
(4) different property owners are required to facilitate widening of Carlsbad Village Drive. On April 24 and May 8, 19
the City Council accepted dedications from the Motel 6 and Chev
Station frontages, respectively. The right-of-way easement to
accepted by the attached resolution is the Unocal Station front
Street. The property is owned jointly by Mr. Robert Sonneman
Ms. Charlotte Thatcher. The Unocal '76 Corporation is the less Staff recommends acceptance of the attached easement documents
Staff is continuing to attempt to secure the two (2) remain
right-of-way dedications along Carlsbad Village Drive required facilitate the installation of the U-turn movements at the Hard Street intersection.
