ITEM EXPLANATION:
The City is in the sixth year of the on-going stree,
maintenance program. The entire program consists of overlay chip seal and slurry seal applications. The overla application is used when the condition of the existing roadwa has deteriorated and the application of a new surface i required. The chip seal application is used to improve tractio and extend the life of new road surfaces and road surfaces tha have been overlayed. The slurry seal application is used t protect the road surface before signs of wear appear.
Based on surveys and observations, the Streets Division ha established a recommended schedule for ongoing maintenanc which includes a list of locations which require overlay, chi seal and slurry seal applications.
It should be noted that streets overlay projects sometime result in increased claims for windshield and paint damage The contractor is responsible for the administration of a1 contract related claims.
The Streets Division recommends that 8.69 lane miles of roadwa
be scheduled for overlay in the 1990-91 program. The list o locations and a work schedule is attached.
Plans and specifications for the Streets Overlay Program are o file with the Purchasing Department and the Utilities Maintenance Department.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The City Council approved funds in the amount of $800,000 fc the entire 1990-91 Asphalt Repair and Maintenance progran Project costs for the Overlay are estimated to be $260,800.
Funds are available in account number 001-820-5110-2412.
