ADJUSTMENT TO THE CARLSBAD FIRE
SALARY PLAN
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The Memorandum of Understanding with the Carlsbad Firefighters’ Association
(CFA) specifies that salaries for 1990 will be set by conducting a salary survey
during the month of September. Salary ranges are determined by applying a
formula that will establish Carlsbad’s benchmark position of Firefighter in the third
paying position in San Diego County.
As a result of the salary survey, salaries for all classifications represented by
Carlsbad Firefighters’ Association will receive a 8.7% salary increase. The salary
increase will be retroactive to June 25, 1990, as called for in the Memorandum of
FISCAL IMPACT:
The cost of salary and salary related benefits for the 1990-91 fiscal year totals
$286,156. This cost is to be supported by a transfer from the General Fund
Contingency Account. The balance of the account will be $781,300.00

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, ADOPTING SALARY
PLAN FOR EMPLOYEES REPRESENTED BY THE CARLSBAD
FISCAL YEAR. FIREFIGHTERS’ ASSOCIATION FOR THE 1990-91
WHEREAS, the Council did on August 1, 1989, by Resolution No. 80-264,
approve the Memorandum of Understanding between Management and
representatives of the Carlsbad Firefighters’ Association, which called for certain
salary adjustments; and
WHEREAS, it is now appropriate in accordance with said Resolution for the
City Council to implement said adjustments by amending the salary plan.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Carlsbad, California, as follows:

That the above recitations are true and correct.
That the Classification and Salary Range Schedule for Fire Safety I 1 Personnel for Fiscal Year 1990-91 as set out in Exhibit A, attached hereto and made

a part hereof, are hereby adopted.
3. The 8.7% salary increase will be retroactive to June 25, 1990.
4. That the amount of $286,156 be transferred from the General Fund
Contingency Account to support these salary adjustments.
