LEO CARRILLO VIDEO PRESENTATION (INFO) RECOMMENDED ACTION: Accept and file. ITEM EXPLANATION; Mrs. Joan Kindle, temporary volunteer Curator for the Carrillo Ranch has successfully obtained a half-inch VHS copy of the Ralph Edward's production of "This is Your Life/Leo Carrillo." Through Mrs. Kindle's endeavors, Ralph Edward's Productions of Hollywood, California, has donated this video recording to the Carrillo Ranch Trust. Mrs. Kindle has requested this item be placed on the Parks and Recreation Commission Agenda so that the Commission members as well as other interested members of the public could view this recording from the once popular television series, "This is Your Life." The enclosed correspondence will give you the details so you may review this matter with the Parks and Recreation Commission. I would like to request 30 minutes on the November 19th agenda so the Commissioners and any interested members of the public may view this delightful addition to the Archives. To accommodate any potential citizen interest, it would be important to schedule the showing at the beginning of the agenda. If this event is to be appropriately publicized, it would be necessary to have scheduling confirmation by November 7th. A television monitor and VCR will be required. Sincerely, Joan E. First, I must ask you to agree to the following on behalf of the Carrillo Ranch Trust Fund (the "Fund") : 1. The tape will be used solely in and in connection with the Carrillo Museum ("Museum") . 2. No admission will be charged to view the tape, nor will it be retaped or otherwise recorded. 3. The Fund will indemnify us against any claims and liabilities' in any way connected with use of the program by the Fund, the Museum, or others authorized by the Fund or the Museum. Leo Carrillo" interview. Carrillo fans and Old California history buffs will have a rare opportunity to view this nostalgic episode on Monday, November 19, in Council Chambers at 5:00 PM. The Edwards gift will be accepted on behalf of the newly established Carrillo Ranch Trust Fund during ceremonies conducted » by the Parks and Recreation Commission prior to its regular . ^' November session. The meeting is open to the general public. Edwards' tribute was first telecast on April 15, 1959 - more than three decades ago. Carrillo died two years later. Featured in the program are personal appearances by daughter Antoinette, brothers Ottie and Jack, fellow actors William Gaxton, Helen Ferguson, Gale Gordon, Stu Erwin, anecdotist Will Rogers, Jr., and the most famous of all Cisco Kid portrayers, Duncan Renaldo. The surviving live-action kinescope recording retains intact the out-dated but fascinating product commercials introduced by nationally popular announcer Bob Warren. The videotape copy will now be dedicated to an archival collection of other memorabilia and artifacts in the protective custody of the Trust. It will remain there until a proposed .. g (more) EXHIBIT 4 RALPH EDWARDS (continued) - 2 - November 7, 1990 exhibition facility is in place at the future Carrillo Ranch Historic Park in south Carlsbad. At that time admission-free showings will be offered for park visitors. The contribution of "This Is Your Life Leo Carrillo" is the culmination of months of discussions between Ralph Edwards Productions of Hollywood and the Friends of Carrillo Ranch. Subject to an agreement to be administered by the City, researchers, historians, educators and non-profit service organizations may request access to the tape for non-commercial purposes under certain carefully controlled conditions. Interested parties should contact Joan Kindle, Volunteer Curator, at 438-1666 for scheduling and details on applicable restrictions.
