PROPOSED AGENDA BILL REGARDING RENAMING OF POINSETTIA AVENUE
At the present time, the La Costa Hotel and Spa enjoys a favorable position in being located north of La Costa Avenue and having the advantage of a similar name. Patrons of La Costa are advised that if traveling 1-5 all the driver of the vehicle has to do is look for, and exit from the freeway on La Costa Avenue. This is a distinct advantage and one that is an asset to the
City of Carlsbad.
It appears that the Aviara Four Seasons Hotel should enjoy the same advantage. The Four
Seasons Hotel will be a distinct landmark in Carlsbad and will produce T.O.T. revenues equal
to, or greater than, La Costa Hotel and Spa.
It is proposed that the name of Poinsettia Avenue be changed to "Aviara Four Seasons" or
something very similar. This name change would require Some special conditions.
First, Four Seasons Hotel Resorts would have to pay the full cost of this proposed name change. The calculation of the costs would include the full charge from CalTrans and any out
of pocket costs incurred by the City for administrative and engineering services rendered to
this project.
Currently, Poinsettia Avenue is not utilized as a mailing address for any residences or
business establishments. This is a distinct difference from the costs incurred in changing the
name of Elm Avenue to Carlsbad Village Drive.
Lastly, the name change should be accomplished to coincide with the proposed opening of
Four Seasons Resort in April, 1992.
