RECOMMENDED ACTION:
City Council adopt Resolution No. W */q
reclassification of the Clerk Typist I in the Library to the classification
of Library Assistant II.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The Human Resources Department along with the Library is recommendir
that the position of Clerk Typist I in the Circulation Division of the
Library be upgraded to the classification of Library Assistant 11.
action is being recommended as a result of a study that analyzed the
actual duties the incumbent is performing. The components of the study
included completion of a questionnaire by the incumbent, analysis of thc
classification by an outside consultant, an interview with the incumber
and with her supervisors, and an analysis of the classification
specifications.
The incumbent is performing duties typically performed by the
classifications of Library Assistant 1/11. These duties include:
authorizing the

1. Performing technical clerical work.

3. Collection of delinquent patron accounts.
4.
Supervision of the part-time page program.
Serves as Circulation Division Head as required.
The majority of the incumbents time is currently spent performing the
work of a Library Assistant 1/11. For this reason, staff recommends th
the position of Clerk Typist I in Circulation be reclassified to Library
Assistant II.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The additional costs for salary and salary related benefits for the
remainder of the fiscal year totals $1,836.

Library.

RESOLUTION NO. 91-14
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, RECLASSIFYING THE POSITION
OF CLERK TYPIST I IN THE CIRCULATION DIVISION OF THE
LIBRARY TO A LIBRARY ASSISTANT II.
WHEREAS, the City Manager recommends and the City Council
concurs, that the Clerk Typist I in Library Circulation should be
reclassified to a Library Assistant II.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Carlsbad, California, as follows:
1. That the above recitation is true and correct.
2. That the City Council authorizes and directs the City
Manager to reclassify the position of Clerk Typist I in Library
Circulation to a Library Assistant II.
