This truck is a standard 5-yard dump truck with a modified covered dump bed to receive and store wood chips, brush, leaves and vegetative material collected by tree maintenance crews. This process of appropriating funds in department accounts for large item equipment replacement was prevalent before the full fleet replacement program was authorized by City Council action in Fiscal Year 90-91. The funds set aside for the purchase of the chip/dump truck by the Parks and Recreation Department have been transferred to the Central Garage Internal Service Fund Replacement Reserve Account and will bf purchased by Fleet Maintenance as a replacement vehicle. A request for replacement of A-591, a full-size sedan for the Police Department wa: inadvertently left off the replacement list for Fiscal Year 90-91 budget. However sufficient funds for the replacement of the full-size sedan were accumulated through tht Vehicle Replacement Program. Staff is recommending the City Council authorize the appropriation of funds from thc Central Garage Replacement Fund and purchase the chip/dump truck and the full-sizi sedan. The purchase of these two replacement vehicles will allow the Fleet Manage to retire P-004 originally purchased in 1975 and A-519 purchased in 1985 from servic and prepare them for sale at public auction.
