ITEM EXPLANATION:
El Camino Real is designated as a prime arterial on the Circulation Elemen
General Plan. Between Lisa Street and the south City limit, a distance of appro)
7.5 miles, El Camino Real is located in gentle rolling terrain with several largc
horizontal curves. The number of lanes vary between four and six lanes and the r(

Sections 22357 and 22358 of the California Vehicle Code authorizes local authc

survey. Staff presented the results of the survey to the Traffic Safety Commi:
April 1, 1991. The engineering and traffic survey considered such factors as the
of collisions that have previously occurred, roadway features, business areas

AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD,
CALIFORNIA, AMENDING TITLE 10, CHAPTER 10.44 OF THE CARLSBAD
MUNICIPAL CODE BY THE AMENDMENT OF SECTION 10.44.060 TO
ESTABLISH A PRIMA FACIE 50 MILE PER HOUR SPEED LIMIT UPON EL
CAMINO REAL FROM LISA STREET TO THE SOUTH CITY LIMIT.
The City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California hereby ordains as follc
SECTION 1 : That Title 10, Chapter 10,44 of the Carlsbad Municipal C
amended by the amendment of Section 10.44.060 to read as follows:
"1 0.44.060 El Camino Real:
the prima facie speed limit shall be fifty miles per hour.
