TITLE: ALTA MIRA COMMUNITY PARK
UPDATE (ACTION)
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Receive the Alta Mira Park update from staff, provide input as to the park program
requirements, and appoint two commissioners to the consultant selection committee for a
park planning consultant.
ITEM EXPLANATION;
The City has recently concluded acquisition of the 30-acre parcel adjacent to the existing
City-owned 12-acre parcel known as the Alta Mira Park site. The site is identified as a
community park in the Parks and Recreation Element of the General Plan. The project is
scheduled in the Capital Improvement Program (CIP) to begin design/development this
present year.
Staff is currently prepared to initiate the design phase of the project. Parks and Recreation
and Municipal Projects staff will review the proposed schedule for development with the
Commission at the meeting.
Parks and Recreation staff has prepared a "Conceptual Park Plan/Park Access Study" which
will be reviewed with the Commission. Attached is the "Preliminary Park Program"
developed by staff in conjunction with the concept plan. Input from the Commissioners on
the proposed park program will be sought.
Lastly, Municipal Projects staff has developed a Request for Qualifications to be sent to
interested landscape architectural firms. A selection committee will be formed to screen and
select consultants for park planning services. The process is proposed to be similar to that
used on Larwin Park. Staff is seeking two Commissioners to be appointed to the selection
committee.
FISCAL IMPACT;
The CIP identifies 9.78 million dollars for design and development of Alta Mira Park to be
built in phases between fiscal years 1990 and 2001.
