ENG:MP DEPl CITY AWARD OF CONTRACT CITY AND SHORE DRIVE, PROJECT NO. 3367 RECOMMENDED ACTION: Adopt Resolution No. 9 / -/,yz lights on Carlsbad Boulevard and certain other streets to Services. ITEM EXPLANATION: On May 22, 1990, Council held a public hearing and ado] Resolution No. 90-150 designating portions of Carlsbad Boulev; Cannon Road, Tierra del Oro and Shore Drive as Underground Uti. District No. 11. The purpose of the district is to p underground all of the overhead wires and remove all the unsigl power poles. The cost of the work is being borne by SDG&E, Pac Bell and Daniel's Cablevision. The streets in this district all have street lights owned by S, and mounted on their power poles. When these poles are rem0 were included in the Capital Improvement Program to pay for installation of new City standard street lights. The City propc that SDG&E's contractor would install the lights and the City wc reimburse SDG&E for this cost which is not part of the distri This was worked out and agreed to at a meeting on February 1991. Subsequently, SDG&E awarded the contract to Irish Construcl Company and the work started about April 1, 1991. The City was notified of the award or the start and when it was discovei asked about the street lights. The City was informed that street lights were not included in the job and SDG&E could no1 that work. When the existing lights are removed with the poles, it will dark unless the new lights are already in place. For this reaE staff requested a price from SDG&E's contractor to avoid streets being dark. This proved unsuccessful as the contractc price was very high. Due to the urgent nature of the timely installation of the ligk staff requested informal bids from three (3) contractors received the following: awarding the construction of st the street lights must be removed.
