ITEM EXPLANATION: Target Stores is providing funds to the City of Carlsbad Arts Office in the amount of $2,500 to help fund the Make-A-Circus performance on Sunday, July 21,1991 at Stagecoach Park / Make-A-Circus is a twenty-year-old performing troupe which regularly tours California, presenting free performances of participatory circus shows. The circus company presents a one-hour show with magic, acrobatics, clowning, aerial arts, a live band and a story format. Then the audience is invited to participate and is taught simple circus skills. Another show with a different story line is then presented in which the children and parents take part. The July 21st performance will be the fourth time Make-A-Circus has been presented by the Carlsbad Arts Office. This grant is made possible through the support of our Store Managers, John Osborne and Marty Brinkman; our District Manager, Mike Turner; and all our employees and customers in your area. The decrease in the amount of our grant is due to a reduction in our contributions budget this year. John Osborne will contact you in the weeks ahead to arrange a convenient date for a check presentation. Please consider him as your primary contact person at Target. At the conclusion of the program, we would appreciate a written report summarizing the performance and documenting the use of these grant funds. This will be the fourth year it has been presented by the Carlsbad Arts Office; and WHEREAS, the cost for a one-day appearance by Make-A-Circus is $5,000. Additional funds to present the circus will come from a California Arts Council Grant in the amount of $1,000, and the City of Carlsbad Arts Office, acct. 001 -820-421 0-2495 in the amount of $1,500. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad as follows: 1. That the above recitations are true and correct. 2. The City is hereby authorized to expend the $2,500 donation from Target Stores, $1,000 California Arts Council Grant and $1,500 from acct. # 001 -820421 0-2495 to present a performance by Make-A-Circus on July 21, 1991.
