PROPOSED ORDINANCE PROHIBITING MTG. ii -5- /?/
Initiate City Council discussion regarding the adoption of a proposed ordinance
prohibiting the use of B.B. and pellet guns in the City of Carlsbad. Direct staff to prepare
a draft ordinance for City Council consideration.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
Mayor Pro Tern Kulchin has requested that this item be placed on the City Council agenda for discussion, It is suggested that an ordinance of the City of Carlsbad be
adopted prohibiting the use of 8.8. and pellet guns in the City. This ordinance is being
proposed in response to a citizen request prompted by use of B.B. and pellet guns in a
residential area.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no estimate at this time of the cost for Police enforcement of such an ordinance

REQUEST FOR ACTION DICK LEWIS
In reference to the attachedCRequest for Action, would you please have staff look into the
issue of totally prohibiting the use of bebe and pellet guns within Carlsbad city limits. I feel
very strongly that this offense should be a misdemeanor, which would then give the Police
Department a concrete law to enforce. This is a potentially dangerous situation and should
be taken care of before any serious injuries or property damage occurs.
I would appreciate your initiating whatever paperwork is necessary to have this
recommendation implemented as soon as possible. 6 ANN J. KULCHIN
