Strong, Chief Executive Officer, California Library Services Board DATE: October 31, 1991 SUBJECT: Plans of Service and Budgets for Fiscal Year 1991-92 I enclose a listing of public libraries, including yours, that have certified fund available for the California Library Literacy Service (CLLS) in Fiscal Year 1991 92. The amount eligible for matching by the State and the resulting fund available for each local library are both displayed. Please complete a Plan of Service Abstract, Plan of Service and Budget page, usin the enclosed guidelines and forms. Return them postmarked by December 6, 1991 This is a nine-day extension of the previously-announced deadline because resolutio of questions regarding eligibility of funds for matching took longer than anticipater and this funding request package is being mailed later than planned. Your receiF of matching funds is contingent upon the State Library’s receiving a satisfactor Plan of Service and Badget from your library. Mail the completed documents in original plus four copies (five total), postmarkel by December 6, 1991, to: California State Library Fiscal Office, Literacy PO Box 942837 Sacramento CA 94237-0001 a a W 2 The State match this year is $1 for each $7.70 raised locally. This is significantly higher than last year, which was one State dollar for each nine dollars raised locally. It is my hope that each year we will come closer to the 100% match authorized by the California Library Literacy Services Act. The State match is based on a phenomenal $4,543,606 #raised by local library literacy services. You are showing that public libraries do have a vital role to play in delivery of adult literacy instruction, and that your local communities understand that funding for literacy is an investment in their future. Few of us would have dared believe two years ago that local support for the CLC would reach this level so quickly! Remember that your matching-funds grant is based on all the services supported by the funds you have certified as eligible for matching. We need reporting on all the learners and tutors supported by these funds, in order to demonstrate the effectiveness of the California Literacy Campaign (CLC). Timely submission of Quarterly Reports to the California State Library and CLC-Base disks for Semi- Annual Learner Progress CALPEP information to ETS are essential for me to be able to keep the California Library Services Board (CUB) and the Legislature accurately informed on the effectiveness of the CLC. Congratulations on your contribution to the development of this extraordinary support for the California Library Literacy Service! --END-- GESP&BlZABB 1 W W California Library Literacy Service 6th and Subsequent Years Programs ET 1991/92 I Amount State Library Certified Award Alameda County Library 157,538 20,273 Alameda Free Library 31,000 3,989 Auburn-Placer County Library 36,486 4,695 Butte County Library 51,101 6,576 Carlsbad City Library ' 110,737 14,250 Contra Costa County Library 162,513 20,913 Downey City Library 49,445 6,363 Hemet Public Library 118,447 15,242 Humboldt County Library 61,200 7,875 Imperial County Free Library 47,716 6,140 Kern County Library 93,700 12,058 Long Beach Public Library 120,5 65 15,515 Los Angeles County Public Library 400,698 51,563 Los Angeles Public Library 297,418 38,273 Marin County Free Library 51,726 6,656 Menlo Park Public Library 103,595 13,331 Merced County Library 53,754 6,917 Modoc County Library 29,000 3,732 Monterey Park Public Library 78,866 10,149 National City Public Library 85,275 10,974 Oakland Public Library 174,478 22,453 Palm Springs Public Library 49,800 6,408 Richmond Public Library 156,174 20,097 Riverside City & County Public Library 212,092 27,293 190,998 24,578 Sacramento Public Library Salinas Public Library 96,153 12,373 119,992 15,441 San Diego County Library San Francisco Public Library 189,174 24,344 San Luis Obispo City-County Library 38,220 4,918 Commerce Public Library 87,200 11,221 Napa City-County Library 70,292 9,045 San Bernardino County Library 169,436 21,804 San Mateo Public Library 28,OOo 3,603 Santa Clara County Free Library 433,988 55,847 Santa Paula, Blanchard Community Library 44,150 5,681 Siskiyou County Public Library 28,200 3,629 South San Francisco & Daly City Library 118,OOo 15,185 Stockton-San Joaquin Co.
