Adopt Resolution No. 9 2-/// , appointing one member to the Historic Preservation Commission.
ITEM EXPLANATION
The term of Robert Zavala expires in April, 1992. Mr. Zavala was originally appointed to the Commission in June, 1991, to
fill an unexpired term.
The Carlsbad Municipal Code specifies that the Commission be composed of members having specific qualifications. Mr.
Zavala's original appointment fit the following category:
One member (of three), each of whom has a different recognized expertise in architecture, archeology, history, biology, engineering, geology or related field.
Therefore, this appointment must meet the qualification for that category. The other two appointees currently serving in this category are Eitan Aharoni and Dennis Gallegos.
Other Commission members are: Marjorie Howard-Jones and Edward McCann.
There are no other current applications on file in the City Clerk's Office.

EDUCATION
Bachelor of Architecture - University of Illinois, nationally accredited and
internationally recognized school of architecture.
Attended the Ekole des Beaux Arts in Versailles, France for one yw, ms is
the oldest, continually operating school of architecture in the world. I
attended the architectural design studio in the palace of Versailles.
EXPERIENCE
I have practiced architectur for twelve years. In addition, my travels have
provided me with a unique opportunity to study first hand many of the great
art treasures that Europe has to offer.

Originally from Chicago, Samuel Chereskin began his formal education at University of Illinois, a nationally accredited and internationally recogr school of architecture. While enrolled there, he attended the prestigious E des Beaux Arts in Versailles, France. His classes were held at the Palac Versailles, which has given a sense of tradition and formality to his work.

Upon returning from Europe in 1980, Samuel Chereskin joined the Chicago f i~ designer Bruce Gregga, regarded as one of the country s top interior desigr Chereskin began with interior design because of his belief that a building SI be more than just a shell which encloses space.
