TITLE: HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION

Information item, no action required.
ITEM EXPLANATION
The Historic Preservation Commission will present a “Three Minute Success Story” to
the Council which is a synopsis of the Commission’s success utilizing a variety of grant
resources to obtain their objectives.
Members of the Commission have attended the California Preservation Foundation
annual conferences for the past several years. Each year, one component of the
Conference program has been participation from Historic Preservation Commissions and
groups highlighting a particularly successful preservation “story”.
At last years conference in Santa Barbara, the Commission was ask to give .a
presentation at the 1992 conference. Due to the budget constraints, the Commission
will not attend this years conference. The Commission will present to the Council the
program that would have been presented at the Preservation Conference. The topic of
the presentation will be the Commission’s successful grant awards and use of these
grants and other funding for preservation activities.
Chairperson Marje Howard-Jones will make the presentation. Other Commission
members are: Vice Chair, Dennis Gallegos, Members Eitan Aharoni, Edward McCann
and Robert Zavala.
FISCAL IMPACT
This is an informational item which has no fiscal impact to the City. Since appointment
in 1985, the Historic Preservation Commission has obtained $598,375 in grants and
donations for the City to use on a variety of preservation activities.
