Adopt Resolution No.9 9-h vaccepting a donation of $3,000 from Target Stores.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
Target Stores is providing funds to the City of Carlsbad Arts Office in the amount of $3,00(
to help fund the Make-A-Circus performance on Sunday, July 19, 1992 at Stagecoach Par1
Make-A-Circus is a performing troupe which regularly tours California, presenting frec
performances of participatory circus shows. The circus company presents a one-hou
show with magic, acrobatics, clowning, aerial arts, a live band and a story format. The1
the audience is invited to participate and is taught simple circus skills. Another show wit1
a different story line is then presented in which the children and parents take part. Thi
July 19th performance will be the fifth time Make-A-Circus has been presented by thc
Carlsbad Arts Office. It has been a most popular event with local families.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The cost for a one-day appearance by Make-A-Circus is $5,000
Target Stores Donation $3,000
California Arts Council Grant $1,250
Carlsbad Arts Office Budget $ 750
Total $5,000

Congratulations! On behalf of Target Stores, I am pleased to enclose a check in the amount of
$3,000 to the City of Carlsbad for support of a Make*A*Circus performance in the summer of
1992.
Target Is pleased to be supporting your program and a partner in your success.
We urge you to keep in touch with your local Target contact, John Osborne, throughout the
period of the grant. At the end of the grant period, we request that you submit a written report
including an evaluation of the success/challenges of the project. a report on how grant funds
were used and an indication of any involvement of Target employees. We would also apprecial
copies of any materials produced for/about the program and media coverage that results from
this program or this grant. These should be forwarded to Target Stores Communfty Affairs, P.C
Box 1392 CC-08H, Minneapolis, MN 55440-1 392.

RESOLUTION NO. 92-164
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD,
CALIFORNIA, ACCEPTING A DONATION FROM TARGET STORES.
Whereas, the City's Arts Office provides cultural opportunities for Carlsbad
residents; and
WHEREAS, Target Stores is providing funds in the amount of 3,000 to the
Carlsbad Arts office to help fund the Make-A-Circus performance on Sunday, July 19
1992; and
WHEREAS, the Make-A-Circus performance is free to the public and is a popular
event. This will be the fifth year it has been presented by the Carlsbad Arts Office: anc
WHEREAS, the cost for a one-day appearance by Make-A-Circus is $5,000
Additional funds to present the circus will come from a California Arts Council Grant ir
the amount of $500, and the City of Carlsbad Arts Office, acct. 001 -820-421 0-2495 in tht
amount of $1,500.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbac
as follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
2. That the donation in the amount of $3,000 from Target Stores to help fund th
Make-A-Circus performance on July 19, 1992 is hereby accepted and deposited int
acct. 880-51 9-9228-0000.

51 9-9228-0000, $500 California Arts Council Grant and $1,500 from acct. 001 -820-421 0-
2495 to present a performance by Make-A-Circus on July 19, 1992.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the Carlsbad City
Council held on the 9th day of June 1992, by the following vote to wit:
