MTG. 4-23-7a CITY 1 AB # I/, 7qg TITLE: CLARIFICATION OF PLANNING COMMISSION ~ SALARIES DEPT, PLN CITY 1 RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council ADOPT Resolution No. sa- ''I salary for Planning Commissioners at $200 per month. ITEM EXPLANATION At their meeting October 17, 1989, Council adopted Resolutior No. 89-371 setting compensation for Planning Commissioners at $100 per meeting, not to exceed $200 per month, effective January 1, 1990. The existing system in the Planning Department results in twc $100 checks being issued each month to each member of thc Commission, regardless of the number of Commission meetings helc during that month. (During certain times, the Commission has been required to hold three or four meetings in one month ir order to accomplish the business at hand, with no extre cornpensation to the panel-) It has been staff's interpretation that averaged out over thc year, the Commissioners attend in excess of the 24 meetings pel year for which they are compensated. In addition to the regula1 Planning Commission meetings, three members of the Commissior serve on the Design Review Board, with this duty rotatins through the members of the Commission. (A potential for two tc three additional meetings per month.) A member is appointed tc serve on the Historic Preservation Commission, the Carrillc Ranch Stabilization Committee, Underground Utilities Committee, Redevelopment Area Master Plan, and others, as required< Additionally, members of the Commission serve on committee: appointed to work on the Planning Commission work program, anc have served on the General Plan Update committee, among others, setting the At their meeting on May 13, 1992, the Commission was asked tc matter. Chairman Erwin requested input on the salary of the Planning CommissLoners because the existing procedure does not conform to the way the agenda bill is written. After discussion, the general consensus was that the $200 monthly salary should continue as it is without any mention regarding meetings.
