~ SALARIES
DEPT, PLN CITY 1
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
That the City Council ADOPT Resolution No. sa- ''I salary for Planning Commissioners at $200 per month.
ITEM EXPLANATION
At their meeting October 17, 1989, Council adopted Resolutior No. 89-371 setting compensation for Planning Commissioners at
$100 per meeting, not to exceed $200 per month, effective January 1, 1990.
The existing system in the Planning Department results in twc
$100 checks being issued each month to each member of thc
Commission, regardless of the number of Commission meetings helc
during that month. (During certain times, the Commission has
been required to hold three or four meetings in one month ir
order to accomplish the business at hand, with no extre
cornpensation to the panel-)
It has been staff's interpretation that averaged out over thc
year, the Commissioners attend in excess of the 24 meetings pel year for which they are compensated. In addition to the regula1

serve on the Design Review Board, with this duty rotatins
through the members of the Commission. (A potential for two tc
three additional meetings per month.) A member is appointed tc
serve on the Historic Preservation Commission, the Carrillc
Ranch Stabilization Committee, Underground Utilities Committee,
Redevelopment Area Master Plan, and others, as required< Additionally, members of the Commission serve on committee: appointed to work on the Planning Commission work program, anc have served on the General Plan Update committee, among others,

At their meeting on May 13, 1992, the Commission was asked tc
matter. After discussion, the general consensus was that thc
Commission wished to receive $200 per month, rather than bein< paid $100 per meeting, not to exceed $200 per month.
FISCAL IMPACT
No additional fiscal impact will be realized. Funds art budgeted in the Planning Commission budget.

ADDED ITEMS AND REPORTS:
Chairman Erwin noted that the opening on the Historic
Preservation Committee had been filled by Commissioner
Savary, who volunteered.
Chairman Erwin requested input on the salary of the Planning
CommissLoners because the existing procedure does not conform
to the way the agenda bill is written. After discussion, the
general consensus was that the $200 monthly salary should
continue as it is without any mention regarding meetings.
