ITEM EXPLANATION Staff is proposing adoption of the Uniform Building Code, 1991 Edition, to repla similar 1988 Edition now in effect. This will bring the City regulation into conf with the State. The 1991 Code contains significant changes concerning haz; materials, seismic design, masonry, exiting and fire resistive standards. Government Code Section 50022.3 requires that this matter be introduce subsequently scheduled for a public hearing for adoption of the code and its assc standards. It has been necessary in the past to allocate sewc 8 (Sections 303(a) and 303(d).) The seismic Zone Map, Figure 23-2, does not ( 9 lo show which seismic zone contains the City of Carlsbad. Apartment houses and other residential buildings, having an aggregate flc exceeding 10,000 square feet, may be protected by an approv.ed automi in height and contain fewer than 16 dwelling units. Such automatic sprinkler ! 23 shall not be considered as the basis for increasing the allowable area of a,bu 24 for exemption from any other Uniform Building Code requirement.
