OF FUNDS
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No.99-5 accepting grants from the California Arts Council in the
of $4,290.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
One of City Council's 1992 goals for the Arts Office is to "provide educational opportunit
family events for all citizens". The Arts Commission recommends that the City contir
visiting artist program with support from the California Arts Council by holding a mini1
two programs during FY 1992/93.
The California Arts Council provides partial funding for visiting artists and has awardec
for the following visiting artists: Make*A*Circus, guitarist Chris Proctor and Magical Moc
Puppet Theatre.
On July 19, 1992, Make*A*Circus held a participatory circus performance at Stagecoac
The circus troupe performed for the audience and then held workshops teaching aL
members (adults and children) circus skills. The circus event was free. This was thc
year Make*A*Circus has performed in Carlsbad.
Guitarist Chris Proctor will hold a three day residency January 11-13, 1993, that wiii
performances and lectures at several Carlsbad schools, civic organizations and a corn
performance.
Magical Moonshine Puppet Theatre will hold a five day residency in May 1993 that will i
performances and lectures at several Carlsbad Schools, the Senior Center and a corn
performance at the Carlsbad Cultural Arts Center.
The California Arts Council has provided support for a number of visiting artist program5
past, including Los Angeles Brass and Janet Ketchum and the African-American
Company.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The total for the artist residency programs is $1 3,700. (Make*A*Circus - $5,000, Chris Prc
$2,200 and Magical Moonshine Puppet Theatre - $6,500). The California Arts Counc
awarded the City of Carlsbad grants in the amount of $4,290. Target Stores has dc
$3,000 for the Make*A*Circus performance. The remainder of funds ($6,410) is budge
the FY 1992193 Arts Office budget.

CALIFORNIA, ACCEPTING CALIFORNIA ARTS COUNCIL GRANTS IN THE
AMOUNT OF $4,290 AND APPROPRIATION OF FUNDS FOR VISITING

WHEREAS, one of City Council's 1992 goals for the Arts Office is to "provide edu

WHEREAS, the Arts Commission recommends a minimum of two visiting artist pi

WHEREAS, the California Arts Council provides partial funding for artists listc
