I'IEM EXPLANATION: The City has a multi-faceted street maintenance program including both in-house main1 repairs and major resurfacing programs which are completed by private contractor Pavement Slurry Seal Program is just one of three annual resurfacing programs. App of the slurry seal can cost-effectively extend the life of a street by five to seven J residential areas. Based on surveys and visual observations, the Streets Division recom 52.5 lane miles for the 1991-92 Slurry Seal Program. That program was postponed in 1991-92 due to budgetary constraints. The result recommended action will be the implementation of the 1991-92 Slurry Seal Prograrr The Streets Division has an on-going Public Awareness Program to keep the public ir as to the dates and times of work. Two weeks prior to the start of work, announceme appear in local newspapers and on local radio and cable television notifying the publi upcoming work. Also, the contractor will distribute door hangers 48 hours prior to t of work to each of the residences and businesses where work will occur. Over the F years, the announcements and door hangers have proven to be vital in the smooth 01 of the Slurry Seal Program. Attached are a list of locations and site maps. A "Notice of Potential Conflict" was routed to all utility companies and City Departme ENVIRONMENTAL. m The Planning Director has determined that the proposed project, which is limited to re] maintenance of existing facilities, is categorically exempt from environmental review p to Section 15301 of Title 14 of the California Code of Regulations (CEQA Guideline: B 0 PAGE 2 OFAB# 12, IgP RSCAL. IMPACE The City Council approved funds in the amount of $780,000 for the entire 1992-93 Repair and Maintenance Program.
