ITEM EXPLANATION
At its meeting of March 2 , 1993, the City Council directed s-
prepare an ordinance which would prohibit skateboarders and skaters from using public rights of way in a manner interferes with use by the general public.
Since we were anticipating the passage of AB 533 we did no' this forward. AB 533 failed and it is now necessary to ado, proposed ordinance.
The Police Department and the City Attorney's office
prepared the proposed ordinance, which prohibits skatebo, roller skaters, and others using similar devices from inte: with pedestrians on any sidewalk or public right of w interfering with the lawful use of a public right of vehicular traffic. Persons using these devices must exerc caution and yield the right of way to pedestrians.
The ordinance also renumbers a section which pr' skateboarding and roller skating in a public drainage fa tennis court or gymnasium. The renumbering places the secti the same chapter as other ordinances regulating skateboard

AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING TITLE 10,
CHAPTER 10.32 AND CHAPTER 10.58, OF THE CARLSBA
MUNTCIPAL CODE FOR RESTRICTIONS ON SKATEBOARDIN
The City Council of the City of Carlsbad, Califo
does ordain as follows:
SECTION 1: That,Title 10, Chapter 10.32 and Ch
10.58 of the Carlsbad Municipal Code are amended by
renumbering of section 10.32.035 to section 10.58.040.
SECTION 2: That Title 10, Chapter 10.58 0:
Carlsbad Municipal Code is amended by the addition of SE
10.58.050 to read as follows:

(a) Any person upon a skateboard, roller sk coaster or any similar toy vehicle or device, shall exerci: caution and shall yield the right of way to and not intE with pedestrians on any sidewalk or public right of way.

We would like to take this o portunity to introduce ourselves and our newly for Carlsbad based business, T.6 In-Line. Our main goal is to inform and educate general public on the proper use and etiquette of using inline skates and protei gear.
It has come to our attention that ou are certain municipal codes #12,288,) regarding inline skating in t e city o Carlsba .
It concerns us that you have combined the inline skating community with the skateboarding publlc. The facts are that these groups are made up of radi different members.
