ACCEPTANCE OF DONATION
City Council adopt Resolution No. 94-67 accepting a $7,50C donation presented by Mr. Jim Gaiser on behalf of citizens of the community who contributed funds for the recasting anc installation of the Carlsbad School Pediment.
ITEM EXPLANATION
The Carlsbad Elementary School formerly located at 801 Pin€ Avenue was demolished to make way for construction of thc
Carlsbad Senior Center/Carlsbad Union School District
Administrative Offices. In order to recognize the historic significance of the School to the community, the Historic Preservation Commission worked to maintain the pediment that was located above the door to the School. Because of agc
and construction materials, the pediment was damaged durin? removal. The Commission worked with Mr. Jim Gaiser whc
contacted former students of the school for donations oJ
funds for the recasting and installation of the pediment.
On August 10, 1992, the Carlsbad Unified School District
took action approving the location placement of the pediment
above the main easterly door to the District Offices. The]
specifically stipulated that no District funds would be usec for the proj ect .
On December 15, 1992, the City Council approved tht installation of the pediment over the easterly door basec
upon the recommendation of the Historic Preservatioi Commission. The Senior Citizens' Commission concurred wit1 the Historic Preservation Commission's recommendation fol placement of the pediment and recommended placement of ai informational plaque to denote the historic significance anc relationship to the Carlsbad Elementary School. The Carlsbad Bicentennial Historical Society gracious11 acted as repository for community donations.
Mr. Jim Gaiser will present the $7,500 to the City fol
recasting and installation of the pediment.
FISCAL IMPACT
The $7,500 will be deposited with the City for recasting an( installation of the pediment.

A RESOLUTION OF TXE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SEVEN THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS
CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA ACCEPTING A DONATION OF
($7,500)
WHEREAS, members of the community have donated funds
for the purpose of recasting and installing the Carlsbad School Pediment; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Jim Gaiser has coordinated the funding
WHEREAS, the Carlsbad Bicentennial Historical
WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to accept this gift
NOW, THEmFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council
of the City of Carlsbad, California as follows:
That the City Council accepts the donation of
seven thousand five hundred dollars ($7,500) on behalf of the citizens of the City of Carlsbad.

To Mayor Lew-is and City Council members:
figures were inaccurate and there was the option of doing a sm
that was several thousand dollars beyond what they had first
told. They had lots of reasons to back away, but they plunged in
with unswerving faith in Carlsbad's famous school spirit, kept
until1 all the necessary funds were raised! I think that it
