FIN CITY I I I RECOMMENDED ACTION: Adopt Resolution No. 4q-3 0 accepting the recommendation of the community activ- funding panel and allocating funds to those groups.. ITEM EXPLANATION: As established Within City Csund Pdcy $51, Process for Fundhg CommUn;ty Acdddc the citizen review panel has completed its task and is forwarding its fundh recommendation to Council. The entire process began in September, 1993, with the solicitation of grant applicatior Fourteen applications were received with funding requests totaling approximately $146,001 The Panel convened for the first of four meetings on January 12, 1994. Each paneli individually reviewed the applications, which was followed by a second meeting to discu; the merits of each applicant organization. The third meeting consisted of interviews wii each applicant group, while the last meeting was used to formulate the recommendation 1 the City Council. The review process resulted H ten organizations that are recommende for City funding of community activities. Several factors were considered as the Panelists formulated their recommendation. T.l Panel focused on the breadth of services each organization provided to various populatio~ within Carlsbad. The Panel was cognizant of what other funding sources were available t organizations, as well as the effort expended to attain those funds. Organizatio representatives were also asked about the extent of their volunteer staffs, as well as wlx portion of their total funds were used toward administrative expenses. The table shown on Attachment "A" identifies the groups that applied for General Fund and those groups that the Community Activity Funding Panel recommends for awards. FISCAL IMPACT: The 1993-94 Operating Budget contains an appropriation of $75,000 for Communit Activities. No further appropriations are required. EXHIBITS: 1. Specifically for costumes, sets, director and choreographer. 2,000 1,oo Boys and Girls Club of carlsbad General youth development and aquatics programs at the Village Branch. 24,100 18,OO Caring Residents of carlsbad: To partially offset water, gas and electric utility bills at the City's homeless shelter, La Posada de Guadalupe de Carlsbad. 7,500 Carkbad Children's Museum: To help purchase supplies and pay City fees for tenant improvements needed to complete the donated space in Village Faire. 11,500 Casa de Amparo: General operating expenses in the provision of 24 hour crisis intervention for abused children.
