RECOMMENDED ACTION: 91yY OF CARLSBAD - AGWDA BILL - - Adopt Resolution No. YY- 78 authorizing staff to pursue Transportation Develoc Act (TDA) funding from SANDAG for construction of sidewalks in various locc throughout Carlsbad. ITEM EXPLANATION: Each year, SANDAG administers distribution of $2,500,000 for non-motorized fac throughout San Diego County for bicycle and pedestrian projects under special provi of the Transportation Development Act (TDA). Claims for this money can be initiatr any city located in San Diego County by completing an application and TDA claim Projects submitted must be included in an adopted City plan and be inc\uded o seven-year Regional Transportation Improvement Plan (RTIP) update. This UF modified by adding new projects, is submitted annually by the City of Carlsbad 1 Engineering Division staff. A resolution from the City Council for each project for \ TDA funds is requested is required as part of the application process. At the February 7, 1994 meeting of the Carlsbad Traffic Safety Commission Commission recommended, by a 5-0 vote, that TDA funding be pursued for the folk project: Funding for sidewalk construction is being requested to help complete the many mi sidewalk linkages throughout Carlsbad. In 1988, the City obtained funding from SAP to prepare a comprehensive Sidewalk Inventory Report. That report has been comF and prioritized all locations throughout Carlsbad where sidewalks are needed. SAF funding, if received, will be combined with the Capital Improvement Project (CIP) fui to begin construction of sidewalks in priority locations. It was recommended by the 1 Safety Commission that funding be requested to supplement other funding sourc construct sidewalk locations ranked as Priority #1 through #14 in the Sidewalk Invc Report. The TDA funds requested as a result of this action totals $297,000. Sidewalk construction at priority locations as listed on Exhibit 2. FISCAL IMPACT: Minor administrative costs to prepare the application to request funding. EXHIBITS: 1 .
