ADMINISTRATION
Pending the departure of Ralph Anderson the Utilities/Maintenance Director, the Parks
and Recreation Director, David Bradstreet, will be heading up the new City department
of Community Services. In addition to the existing Parks and Recreation divisions,
Bradstreet will oversee the Streets, Facilities and Fleet Operations Divisions. All these
divisions and their staff are currently in the midst of budget preparation.
The General Plan review is scheduled for the Planning Commission Wednesday, March
16. The public review is a process by which all elements of the General Plan are
examined including the Parks and Recreation Element. A great deal of community input
is anticipated at the meeting. All aspects and elements within the General Plan will be
open for public input. To get to this point has been a process of approximately two
years.
PARKS
Doug Duncanson recently received the District XII California Parks and Recreation Society
Professional Merit Award for outstanding service to the Society. Doug also begins a three
year commitment to the District as President-Elect in 1994. Congratulations to Doug for
his commitment of excellence to his profession.
Doug further reports that renovation to Maxton-Brown Park is in midstream. Regrading,
leveling and irrigation will be added once renovation is complete. Once finished, the Park
will be home to a set of artwork placed by the City's Arts Commission that had originally
been scheduled for Larwin Park.
Parks personnel are busy this month with the process of applying Spring fertilization to
all City athletic turfed areas.

six Carlsbad teams were involved in the tournament staged in the City of Chula Vista.

SPECIAL EVENTS
The 6th Annual Youth Golf Clinic was held at Rancho Carlsbad Golf Course on February
26, 1994. Over 100 enthusiastic golfers participated in the free event. Youngsters
received instruction from the Carlsbad High School Golf Team and Rancho golf pro Wil
Kading. Everyone received a donated golf club to keep as a memento of the day's
festivities. Over 350 clubs and 16 golf bags were donated by generous citizens of the
community. Local businesses provided water bottles as well as clubs and golf bags.
