specifications; and authorizing the City Clerk to advertise for bids for the Holiday House F
Restoration.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
In December of 1993 the Holiday House, located at Holiday Park, received considerable dama
from a fire that was intentionally set during a burglary. Cost to repair the damage to the faci
is estimated at $34,000. In addition, furnishings and equipment valued at approximately $1O,C
were stolen or destroyed. This facility houses the Community Services Department’s Spec
Events program which has been operating out of the Magee House since the fire.
An architect was retained to design the restoration. The plans have been completed and wc
recently approved by the City’s insurance carrier. The project scope includes restoring the facil
to its original condition while bringing it into compliance with current building codes. AI
included are modifications required to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 19
(ADA).
Plans and specifications for the Holiday House Fire Restoration are on file with the Commur
Services Department, Facilities Management Division located at 405 Oak Avenue, Carlsbad.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The cost of restoration is estimated at $34,000. Staff is recommending that $34,000
appropriated from the General Fund Contingency to the Facilities Management Major Buildi
Maintenance Account. The City’s insurance carrier will reimburse the City for all costs of tl
restoration, less a $5,000 deductible.
