RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. %-ed accepting bids and awarding a contract in the amoun
$72,270 to Johnson Construction for the Library ADA Modifications, Contract No. U/M 944

On June 28, 1994, the City Council approved the contract documents, special provisions i
specifications, and authorized the City Clerk to advertise for bids for the Library P
Mod if ications.
Four (4) bids were received, opened, witnessed and recorded on August 18, 1994. The
included three alternates in addition to the base bid because of the limited funding and
uncertainty of the construction market. The total bid amounts, including the alternates, ran!
from $72,270 to $92,157. The bids were reviewed by the staff of the Purchasing Departrr
and the Community Services Department.

Sufficient funds are available to award the base bid and all three alternates. It is therei
recommended that the construction contract be awarded to Johnson Construction, the lov
responsive bidder, in the amount of $72,270. The contractor’s registration and bonds arl
order and references are satisfactory.
FISCAL IMPACT
Funding for this project is appropriated in the City’s Capital Improvement Program, Account
320-820-1 890-3384. The total budget for this project is $86,231. Of this amount, $36,23
funded from a Library Services and Construction Act Title II Grant while the remaining $50,
are currently available using Public Facility Funds allocated for the remodeling of the C
Library. Use of these funds now will not increase the cost of the ultimate remodel.

RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF ME CITY OF CARLSBAD,
CALIFORNIA ACCEPTING BIDS AND AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTION OF
CONTRACT NO. U/M 94-9 FOR ME LIBRARY ADA MODIFICATIONS
WHEREAS, bids have been received by the City of Carlsbad, Californic
the Library ADA Modifications; and
WHEREAS, the lowest responsive bid was submitted by Joh
Construction, in the amount of $72,270; and
WHEREAS, sufficient funds are available in the CQ's Capital Improve
Program, Account Number 320-820-1 890-3384 for the project;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the C
Carlsbad as follows:

The above recitations are true and correct.
The bid of $72,270 by Johnson Construction for the Library
Modifications, Contract No. U/M 94-9 is hereby accepted ani
Mayor and the City Clerk are hereby authorized to execute a COI
therefore.
