RECOMMENDED ACTION:
To accept and file a memorandum from the City Attorney's office.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The City Attorney's office has asked the Parks and Recreation Commission to receive and review
the attached memorandum for their information.

"ETHICS IN GOVERNMENT ACT OF 1990**
In 1990, the state passed a law prohibiting elected officials from
accepting any honoraria for any speech or attendant at any public
or private conference or convention, meeting, social event, meal,
etc. in excess of $1,000 in any single calendar year.
Reimbursements for actual travel expenses and reasonable
subsistence was permitted.
Effective January 1, 1995, this law has been amended to include
designated employees of a city and the amount has been reduced to
$250.
Violation of this law subjects a person to a civil action by the
Fair Political Practices Commission and a fine of up to three times
the amount of the unlawful honorarium, gift or expenditure.
