DONATION
Adopt Resolution No.7 5- 17 accepting a donation of $10,000 from the Boys and Girls Club of
ITEM EXPLANATION
The Arts Office, in partnership wii:h the Boys and Girls Club, received a grant from the California
Arts Council (CAC) to present an arts program (“YES to Arts”) for junior high school age youth.
TheBoys and Girls Club of Carlsbad agreed to match the grant with a contribution of $22,500.
The $10,000 contribution is funding received from a grant by the San Diego Community
Foundation to the Boys and Girls Club for this expressed purpose. San Diego Community
Foundation grants are highly competitive and it is an indication of the quality of the project to have
received this funding. The Boys and Girls Club of Carlsbad received the second highest amount
The “YES to Arts” program providies visual and performing arts twice a week at the Boys and
Girls Club. The programming started in December with craft classes offered during the holidays,
Danza y Mascara is presently being offered. This is a multi-discipline workshop which includes
mask-making, paper mache craft techniques, percussions and dance movement. Plans are being
developed for a drama program to begin next month. The program is targeting a youth-at-risk
population and has been extremely well received by participants and the community thus far.
FISCAL IMPACT
The contributed $10,000 will assist with costs of the “YES to Arts” program and will be used to
match the CAC grant The funds will be deposited into the Arts Office Donation Account ( 180-
8 10-8 143-2495). The Arts Office is authorized to spend these funds.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CARLSHAD,CALIFORNIA, ACCEPTING A DONATION
FROM THE BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB OF CARLSBAD
WHEREAS, the Carlsbad Arts Office in partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of
received a grant from the California Arts Council to present an am program (“YES to Arts”)
high school age youth; and
WHEREAS, the $ I5,OOO grant received from the California Am Council is to be mat
$22,500 from the Boys and Girls Club of Carlsbad; and
WHEREAS, the Boys and Girls Club of Carlsbad has received a $lO,OOO grant fro1
Diego Community Foundation for this expressed purpose; and
WHEREAS, the Boys and Girls Club of Carlsbad is donating the $lO,OOO San Diego C
Foundation grant to the City of Carlsbad for the “YES to Arts” program as part of its matching
NOW, THEREFORE, 13E IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, a
